How to Make BBQ Chicken Flatbread
Ready to dive into this deliciousness? Let’s break it down step by step!
- Get Your Skillet Hot: Start by preheating a skillet over medium heat. Cut those thick-cut bacon slices into bite-sized pieces.
- Make the Candied Bacon: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cracked black pepper, cayenne pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. This sweet and spicy blend is going to take your bacon to the next level! Coat the bacon pieces in this mixture and toss them in the skillet. Cook until crispy, then set aside and let the sugar caramelize.
- Caramelize the Onions: Wipe your skillet clean and toss in some butter. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook them until they’re beautifully caramelized—about 5-10 minutes of pure bliss.
- Prep the Flatbreads: While the onions are doing their thing, preheat your oven to 500℉ with a pizza stone inside. Brush your flatbread dough with olive oil and pierce it all over with a fork to keep it from puffing up during baking.
- Build Your Flatbread: Layer each flatbread with shredded Monterey Jack cheese, followed by the sliced apples, chopped chicken, caramelized onions, and of course, that delicious candied bacon. Drizzle a generous amount of your favorite BBQ sauce over the top—don’t hold back!
- Bake to Perfection: Carefully remove the hot pizza stone from the oven and sprinkle it with cornmeal (if using). Transfer the flatbread pizzas to the stone and bake for about 7 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is a perfect golden brown.
Now, slice it up and get ready for a flavor explosion! This BBQ Chicken Flatbread with candied bacon is sure to impress your friends and family. Enjoy every bite!
