Why This Easy Chili Recipe is Bean-Free and Delicious

For starters, my kids HATE beans but I love chili. Taking beans out of regular chili makes it taste kind of like the cans of chili you get at the grocery store – flavorless and lacking much texture. So I looked for an alternative. My kids love sweet potatoes and when they are cooked up in this easy chili recipe, they have a very similar texture to beans. Plus, sweet potatoes are packed with vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants, making this chili not only incredibly delicious but also a healthier option.

Tips for Perfecting Your Easy Chili Recipe

  • Simmer Longer for More Flavor: If you have the time, let your chili simmer for a couple of hours. The longer it cooks, the deeper the flavors get.
  • Don’t Skimp on Toppings: Toppings like sour cream, cheese, and cornbread take this chili from great to amazing.
  • Adjust the Spice: Want it spicier? Add more cayenne or toss in a chopped jalapeño. Like it milder? Dial back the cayenne and stick with the sweet flavors from the potatoes.

Notes
Note about liquid: I used my home-canned tomatoes, which add a lot of liquid to the chili. Next time, I’ll reduce the liquid since they naturally bring extra. If you’re using store-bought canned tomatoes, stick to the higher end of the liquid measurements unless you prefer a thicker chili.
