  • Cinnamon Vanilla Butter

Step by Step Process for Making Fruit Waffle Medley

  • Prepare Your Fruit: Prepare all your fruit and toppings ahead of time, so you can focus on making the waffles. Alternatively, you can prep the toppings while your batter rests. I know resting batter is a topic of debate, but I find it helps enhance the waffles’ texture.
  • Mix Ingredients: In separate bowls, mix the dry ingredients and wet ingredients. Then, combine the wet ingredients into the dry and stir just until incorporated.
  • Preheat Waffle Iron: Ensure your waffle iron is super hot. Mine has an indicator light that signals when it’s ready and when the waffle is done—this feature is incredibly helpful.
  • Add Waffle Batter: Pour enough waffle batter into the waffle iron to fill all the holes. The baking powder will cause the waffles to fluff up and fill the top. Avoid adding too much batter, as it may leak out the sides, but don’t skimp on it either, or you won’t get full waffles.
  • Check for Doneness: When the waffle stops steaming, it’s ready to be removed. Use a fork or tongs to transfer it to a plate and keep it warm while you prepare the remaining waffles.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Serve the waffles with your prepared toppings, allowing everyone to build their own version of a delicious waffle masterpiece.

Georgie’s Tips

  • If your waffle maker doesn’t have an indicator light—or if you’re rocking an old-school iron waffle maker (because who doesn’t love vintage kitchen tools?)—just watch for the steam. Initially, the waffles will steam vigorously, but as they crisp up and cook through, the steam will lessen. It might not completely stop, so be sure to experiment a bit. The key is to find out what works for your setup and stick with it. Yeah, I know—thanks for stating the obvious, Georgie!

Frequently Asked Questions

If your waffles are turning out soggy, it could be because your waffle iron isn’t hot enough. Make sure to preheat it thoroughly. Another trick is to add a tablespoon of cornstarch to the batter for extra crispiness.

Yes! You can substitute eggs with options like mashed banana, applesauce, or flaxseed mixed with water. The texture may be a bit different, but they’ll still taste delicious.

Place cooked waffles directly on the oven rack in a 200°F oven. Avoid stacking them, as that can trap steam and make them soggy.

Sticking could be due to insufficient greasing or overfilling the iron. Lightly spray or brush with oil or butter before cooking. Also, make sure you wait until the waffle is fully cooked before trying to remove it.

Absolutely! Let them cool completely first. Then I like to lay them out on a cookie sheet, pop them in the freezer for an hour, then place them in an airtight container or freezer bag. To reheat, pop them in the toaster or oven, and they’ll crisp up nicely. Meal prep a big batch and your kids can eat them before school.

Waffle batter should be thick but pourable. If it’s too thick, add a little more milk until it reaches the right consistency. If it’s too thin, add a bit more flour.

Overmixing the batter can make waffles tough. Mix until the ingredients are just combined—lumps are okay! Over-mixing develops gluten, leading to denser, chewier waffles.
