Ingredients in Korean BBQ Beef Bowl
- Lean Ground Beef (or substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option)
- Garlic Cloves (minced for that aromatic base)
- Cumin (adds a warm, earthy note)
- Paprika (for a smoky depth)
- Fresh Mint (for a refreshing, unique twist)
- Chili Powder (for that touch of heat)
- Onion Powder (rounds out the flavor)
- Olive Oil (for sautéing)
- Radishes, Zucchini, Carrots, Broccoli (fresh veggies that add crunch, color, and nutrition)
- Yellow or White Onion (sautéed with the beef for added sweetness)
How to Make Korean BBQ Sauce
The sauce is what really brings this bowl together! You can use a store-bought BBQ sauce or whip up your own Korean-inspired version. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Barbecue Sauce: I love using homemade bourbon BBQ sauce, but any BBQ sauce works as a base.
- Fish Sauce (adds depth and umami)
- Soy Sauce (or coconut aminos for a gluten-free alternative)
- Sesame Oil (for that signature nutty flavor)
- Rice Vinegar (adds a tangy balance)
How to Make Spiced Korean BBQ Beef Bowls
Brown the Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned. Stir in the minced garlic and spices – cumin, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let the flavors meld as the beef cooks through.
- Cook the Veggies: At this point, you have two options:
- Option 1: Remove the beef and keep it warm. Then, sauté the veggies in the same pan, so they absorb the flavors.
- Option 2: Toss the veggies right into the pan with the beef and cook everything together for a quick, one-pan meal. Both methods yield delicious results!
- Assemble the Bowls: On a bed of crisp lettuce, arrange your sautéed beef and veggie mixture. Drizzle with the tangy Korean BBQ sauce and garnish with fresh mint or sesame seeds for extra flavor and texture.
