Steps to Make Cinnamon Rolls
- Whip Up the Dough: In a big mixing bowl, toss together 2 cups of flour and the yeast. Set that aside for a bit. Then, grab a small saucepan and heat up the milk, sugar, 1/3 cup butter, and salt until the butter melts (don’t go overboard on the heat!). Pour that into the flour mixture with the eggs and stir it up until it’s just combined. Gradually mix in the rest of the flour using a wooden spoon.
- Knead and Let It Rise: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 3-5 minutes until it’s nice and smooth. Roll it into a ball and toss it back in the bowl—no need to grease it! Let it rise until it doubles in size.
- Divide and Chill: Once it’s risen, punch it down (that’s the fun part!) and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half and cover it with a clean kitchen towel for about 10 minutes. While that’s resting, grease your baking dishes (you’ll need a 9×11 inch and a 9×9 inch pan).
- Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, chopped apples, and cinnamon. Set this tasty filling aside for later.
- Roll and Fill: Roll each piece of dough into a rectangle that’s about 1/4 inch thick. Spread softened butter all over the surface, then sprinkle that awesome brown sugar mixture on top. Starting from the long side, roll the dough up tightly into a spiral.
- Slice and Rise Again: Grab some unflavored dental floss (yep, you heard that right!) and slice the rolled dough into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Place these rolls in your greased baking dishes. Cover them with a towel and let them rise for another 1-2 hours until they’re nice and puffy. And don’t stress if some juices leak out; it’ll be delicious!
- Get the Glaze Ready: About 10 minutes before the rolls are done rising, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan. Whisk in the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and salt. Add 2-4 tablespoons of milk until it’s the consistency you want—smooth and pourable!
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pop those cinnamon rolls in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and calling your name.
- Drizzle and Devour: Once they’re out of the oven, drench those warm rolls with the maple glaze. Serve them up warm and get ready for everyone to swoon!

Maple Apple Cinnamon Rolls
Equipment
- Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Measuring Cups and Spoons
Ingredients
- 4½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2½ tsp active dry yeast (2 1/2 teaspoons)
- 1 cup milk
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup softened butter
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 Large eggs
- ¾ cup Light Brown Sugar
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ⅓ cup softened butter
- 1 finely chopped apple (peeled)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- ⅛ tsp salt
- 2-4 tbsp milk
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 2 cups of flour and 2½ tsp active dry yeast.
- In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup milk, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, ⅓ cup softened butter, and ½ tsp salt over low heat until the butter just melts. Be careful not to overheat. Add to the flour mixture along with 2 Large eggs and stir until just combined. Using the dough hook, stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can.
- Knead until smooth and elastic (3-5 minutes total). Roll the dough into a ball and place it back in your bowl. Don't grease the bowl or the dough. Allow the dough to rise until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rest for 10 minutes. Lightly grease a baking dish and set aside. It took me one 9×11 and one 9×9 pan to fit them all.
- In a medium bowl, stir together ¾ cup Light Brown Sugar, ¼ cup all-purpose flour, 1 finely chopped apple, and 1 tbsp ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- Roll out the dough into two ¼ inch thick rectangles. Spread ⅓ cup softened butter all over the dough and then sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over each half. Starting on the long side, roll the dough into a spiral shape. Using long pieces of floss, cut the dough into ½ inch thick slices. Place in the prepared baking dish. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size. Some of the juices will seep out, and that is perfectly fine.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden.
- Ten minutes before the cinnamon rolls come out of the oven, melt 4 tbsp unsalted butter in a small saucepan and whisk in 2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tbsp pure maple syrup, and ⅛ tsp salt. Finally, whisk in 2-4 tbsp milk to reach your desired consistency and stir until smooth.
- Top with glaze while rolls are still warm and serve.
