How To Make Pizza Sliders
This recipe is all about easy customization. While I’ll show you how to make classic Pepperoni Pizza Sliders, you can switch up the toppings to suit your cravings. Whether you’re all about extra cheese or love loading up on veggies, the options are endless. Let’s break down the most important parts of these sliders: cheese, meat, sauce, and veggies.
Cheese Choices
Cheese is the heart of any pizza, right? It’s what makes everything gooey, melty, and delicious. Depending on the flavor profile you’re going for, you’ve got a lot of options here. Here are some cheeses that work great in pizza sliders:
- Mozzarella: The classic! Its mild flavor and perfect melt make it a go-to. Great with pepperoni, chicken, ham, or veggies.
- Parmesan: Adds a savory punch and works well as a finishing cheese on top of your sliders.
- Cheddar: A sharp, tangy cheese that pairs well with beefy options like hamburger or brisket.
- Provolone: Slightly smoky and perfect when combined with mozzarella. Ideal for Italian Sub-inspired sliders.
- Fontina: Rich, creamy, and a bit nutty. Melts beautifully with meats like prosciutto, Italian sausage, and chicken.
- Gouda: Sweet and nutty, but I wouldn’t recommend it for sliders. Save it for pairing with apples or pears on flatbreads.
- Blue Cheese: Bold and tangy—perfect for Buffalo Chicken Sliders if you’re going for something spicy.
- Feta: Adds a salty kick! Try it with Mediterranean-style sliders, but layer it with mozzarella for that gooey factor.
- Ricotta: Dollops of creamy ricotta add a smooth texture. It works well on pepperoni or Margherita pizza sliders.
Meat Choices
Let’s talk meat! If you love it on pizza, it’ll be just as delicious in your pizza sliders. Here are some classic combos:
- Pepperoni and Mozzarella: Can’t beat this classic duo. The salty pepperoni and melty mozzarella scream pizza perfection.
- Sausage and Provolone: Italian sausage paired with the smoky flavor of provolone is a match made in heaven.
- Bacon and Gouda: Bacon brings the smokiness, while Gouda adds a rich, nutty flavor.
- Chicken and Fontina: Creamy Fontina is a great match for chicken. You could also try Mozzarella and bacon for a Chicken, Bacon, Ranch vibe.
- Beef and Cheddar: This is your go-to for BBQ-style sliders.
- Pancetta and Goat Cheese: Need I say more?
Sauce Choices for Pizza Sliders
Choosing the right sauce is key! Once you’ve picked your cheese and meat, the sauce will bring it all together. Here are some great options:
- Classic Tomato Sauce: Perfect for pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, or bacon sliders. Pairs with mozzarella, Parmesan, and provolone.
- Garlic and Olive Oil Sauce: Amazing with chicken, shrimp, or prosciutto, and pairs beautifully with Fontina and Parmesan.
- Pesto Sauce: Try it with grilled chicken or pork, along with mozzarella and feta.
- Alfredo Sauce: Rich and creamy, perfect with chicken, bacon, or ham. Pair with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Barbecue Sauce: Great for BBQ chicken, pulled pork, or brisket sliders. Cheddar or smoked Gouda work best here.
- Buffalo Sauce: If you’re making
- Buffalo Chicken Sliders, go for blue cheese or mozzarella.
- White Sauce (Ricotta and Garlic Base): Fantastic with Italian sausage or prosciutto, and pairs well with ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
- Tomato Cream Sauce: A mix of cream and tomato, delicious with bacon, grilled chicken, or sausage. Pairs well with Fontina and mozzarella.
- Salsa: Great for Mexican-style sliders with ground beef, chorizo, or chicken. Pair with pepper jack, cheddar, or mozzarella.
Veggie Choices for Pizza Sliders
Adding veggies gives your sliders extra flavor and texture, but don’t go overboard. You want the veggies to enhance the sliders, not take over. Here are some tips for using veggies:
- Size Matters: Cut your veggies small or thin so they don’t block the cheese from melting evenly.
- Cooking Time: Hard veggies like onions or bell peppers might not soften enough in the oven, so give them a quick sauté beforehand. Just don’t overcook them—softened, not mushy, is the goal! Mushrooms, sliced olives, and tomatoes can go in raw.
Making pepperoni pizza sliders is a fun and easy way to switch up pizza night. Plus, they’re super customizable. Whether you go for a classic combo or create your own twist, these sliders are guaranteed to be a hit with your family. So next time you’re thinking of calling in that pizza order, why not try these sliders instead? They’re quick, delicious, and way more fun to make!
