Making Puff Pastry Dough:

With a food processor, you can whip up homemade puff pastry dough in just 5 minutes! The best recipe gives you flaky, crispy shells of buttery goodness. Sure, you can use Pillsbury dough if you’re short on time, but homemade will always win in flavor and texture—though Pillsbury still tastes great!

How to Wrap Lil Smokies in a Blanket

When I first tried making these, I made a rookie mistake by cutting the dough too short. But no worries! I’ve figured out the perfect method to ensure each piece is cut just right every time. Here’s how to do it:

  • Measure It Out: Place the sausage at the edge of the dough to get the right length.
  • Cut the Strip: Slice the dough into a strip that’s roughly the length of the sausage.
  • Roll It Up: Place the sausage on the edge of the dough and roll it until it overlaps slightly.
  • Trim Excess: Cut the dough where it overlaps just a bit.
  • Seal It: Pinch the edges together to keep that smoky goodness tucked inside.
  • Repeat: Place on a cookie sheet and keep rolling until you’re done!

How to Bake Your Lil Smokies in a Blanket

Here’s the deal: homemade puff pastry dough won’t brown up quite like Pillsbury. If you prefer a softer dough, brush each wrapped sausage with an egg wash before baking. Pro tip: for an extra crispy finish, pop them in the air fryer for 5 minutes after baking!

These Lil Smokies in a Blanket are perfect for any gathering—game days, birthday parties, or just a cozy night in. Whip up a batch and watch them disappear in no time! Your guests will be raving about these tasty bites, and you’ll feel like a superstar in the kitchen. Enjoy!
